1.
Please introduce the band: Name, age, instrument, and favorite flavor of donut ? Hey! We are the leftovers-- our
name is fucking horrible, we picked it one day really quick because we had a show
and no name, and we had just had some great leftover burritos in the fridge. We
were inspired by refried beans. There are MANY bands out there with the name THE
LEFTOVERs, but we of course are the best. It’s more of a regional name. We got
Maine and New Hampshire and Mass covered. I think there is a Leftovers in RI.
Hmmm. Anyway, Andrew is 19 he sings and plays guitar, I think his favorite donut
is the Boston Cream kind. Adam plays drums and is also the ripe old age of 19
and he like donut holes. And I’m Kurt, 18 years of age. I play bass and sing a
lot. I’m a huge fan of any donut with an artificial fruit filling. 2.
Tell the history of the band. How did you meet, were you in other bands before,
didn’t there used to be four Leftovers? We started in 2002. It was Andrew
and me and our old friend Bobby on drums. I had played with Bobby in bands before.
We all met in school and were friends before the band started. That line up lasted
about a year.. We really were pretty bad. Bobby left the band in 2003 and then
we got Adam and this dude named Drew on guitar. Things started to pick up and
we recorded an EP. It got us a lot of shows starting out. Those were fun days.
We played all over . We really just liked to bowl a lot and go sledding though.
We played a lot of pool hockey on Andrew's pool. My lip got busted once cuz the
puck hit me in the face. OUCH! In the spring time we would play whiffle ball.
Sometimes we would practice and play shows. But it obviously wasn’t a big thing
for us. Partying was our main deal. We were party animals. We ate a lot of cupcakes
too. Then in 2004 we recorded a full length album called "Stop Drop Rock
R roll". It was a fun time. Drew left the band this past summer, so now we
are back to a 3 piece.
3.
Pop-punk really got overshadowed by emo but it never really went away. Do you
think there's still a strong fan support for pop/punk and do you think it will
come back to be as popular as it was in the 90s? Pop
punk is a really easy genre to get into. It’s catchy and it’s accessible. Its
really fun music. But to a lot of people it gets old. Pop punk is a phase for
people. They start with listening to ska, and then they go to pop punk and then
they go to emo and now its post hardcore metal whatever?!?!?! Not sure. It’s really
easy for pop punk bands to suck. There are only a few great ones out there to
this day. But I still think there are places where pop punk still has fans. Most
of them are pretty die hard fanatics, but who doesn’t like a good pop punk song?
Everybody is concerned with what is "cool" now so they listen to this
god-awful indie hardcore whatever. This music is not fun, people... it’s lame!
We as the Leftovers are trying to get idiot peoples to realize that music should
be fun and that you don’t have to be so serious all the time. So yea, I bet in
2020 pop punks going to be huge again, and we will be rollin in the benjis. Zing!
4. Name your five all-time favorite
bands- and why. The Beatles-
the greatest band ever. The Ramones - They
brought back the rock n roll in a time when the music scene and bands were fucked
up. Its much like today. Music is getting so messed up... we need a band like
the Ramones to bring the spirt of rock n roll back.
Plus they were all bad ass motherfuckers who wore leather and talked about sniffing
glue. Cheap Trick - These guys are the best
at writing a good power pop rock n roll song. Huge inspirations to us. They were
around the same time as the Ramones... but they were doing different stuff...
but it was all still great. The perfect show would be Cheap Trick and the Ramones
in 1978. Green Day - Green day is a great
band. Everybody loves them. So do we. Ace
of Base - They are Swedish. They write dance pop songs with hints of reggae, and
they are all hot. Now that’s yummy!!!!
5.
I understand you guys have a thing about the Ikea furniture store. What is up
with that??? I love Sweden.
Or anything Swedish. We were in Connecticut and I had heard something about this Swedish store called
IKEA. I thought it was pronounced " I. K. E. A." I wasn’t really sure.
Ha-ha. So we get down to the show we were playing and we tell everybody that we
passed this crazy store. And they were like "ITS A SWEDISH FURNITURE STORE!!!"
and right then and there, I knew we had to hit up that place. Its such a magical
store. They have breakfast for 99 cents. FULL BREAKFAST! Not to mention their
Swedish meatballs are tasty. Cheap prices on any cookies and stuff like that.
Whenever we drive thru New
Haven we always stop there. I think
they are getting one in Boston, which is good news cuz its closer to us now!! Weekend
IKEA trips hooray!
6. People don’t usually think of Maine as being very punk rock. In
fact I cant think of another band from Maine! Is there much of a scene where
you come from? Places to play shows? Who are some other bands from Maine that we should check out? Maine isn’t
half bad! Well Portland isn’t
at least. We are from Portland...
Maine’s
biggest city. I don’t think I would have started a band if I didn’t live in Portland. Ha-ha. There are lots of bands however all across the
state. We have some great punk rock too, and we always have killer legion hall
shows. There are some great clubs in the area to, but sometimes its hard to get
a good all ages shows booked at them. When we do however, they are fun as hell!
Some other great Maine bands
to check out are... The
Hi Fivin' White Guys <a href=”http://www.myspace.com/thecompany
anthem”>The Company Anthem Black
Cat Check out those bands.. They
are great!!!!

Since you're from Maine, ... How do you eat
a lobster, anyway? The thing looks like a giant boiled bug! Lobster is
a pain in the ass. You fork over 10 bucks sometimes for the damn thing and you
gotta crack open all these shells and parts to get the lobster meat. There is
some green stuff in there that I guess cures rabies. Its okay tasting. Some people
love lobster, some people hate it, but if you’re a first timer, I guess it’s an
experience. And if you don’t want to work to get some lobster meat, then I suggest
getting a lobster roll. Those are easy. It is just a sandwich!!! 8.
A lot of pop punk songs are about girls. How are you guys doing in the romance
department? What's your best pick up line to meet girls? We
have lots of songs about girls. But I’m usually the one who writes them all. I’m
the only single one really in the band... basically. But I end up writing a lot
of the songs anyway. Andrew writes songs but they are about like standing up for
your friends at the play ground and then sometimes salt water canoeing. I tend
to write songs about hot babes. But I’m horrible at romance. I just think that
they are fun songs. I don’t think any of us use pick up lines cuz pick up lines
are for college douche bags that play football or 40 year old wimps that wish
they were still in high school who hang out at Rusty's Tavern all day.

9. Who would you rather hang out with for a
day - Joey Ramone, Ben Weasel, or Billy Joe Armstrong? And Why?
This is a tough question because hanging out with
any of these people would probably be excellent. Ben
Weasel writes the best songs ever, but I think hanging out with him would be dumb
all day. I’d drink a beer with him but he doesn’t drink, I don’t think.
Joey Ramone would be okay… he seems way too quiet. I
think hanging with him would be boring. And all I know is that Marky guy is a
big ole rock star now and he doesn’t leave his tour bus. He wasn’t even on really
any AMAZING Ramones albums. He’s just living off the name. Billy
Joe would probably be the one we would all pick. I don’t know how much of an ego
he has now that he sells out arenas, but just from who he is as a person he seems
like a rad dude. Maybe we can steal some of his mojo and write some #1 hits.
10.
Tell people how they can find you on the web and what merch you have available.
We have a website but its under
construction right now. It’s http://www.theleftoversrock.com
But MySpace is the way to get the most up to date shit on us at the moment. http://www.myspace.com/theleftovers
If you want to buy our
cd's they are available at Interpunk.com. Like I said before, there are a bunch
of bands called the Leftovers.. But we are definitely the best sounding (and looking).
I think we look hotter than we sound. At least Adam does. Go
