HUNZILLA
Heavy Metal Is Back - and Hunzilla is here!

1. Introduce the band - name, age, instrument, and favorite scifi movie

Tim: Hey, we are Hunzilla. My name is Tim Canalichio, 17, and I played bass and do lead vocals. Some members are away at the time, but I  managed to reach our guitarist in Brazil

Bernardo: Bernardo M. Rodrigues, 18, Guitar, Star Wars.

Tim: On the drums is James Dopp, 18, and on the guitar is Geza Horvath, 18. I think I can speak for all of us when I say STAR WARS as our favorite scifi movie.

2. For a long time, it seemed like metal wasn't "cool" anymore. Everything was emo or pop and metal was like a big joke. Do you think that's changing? Why is metal the best kind of rock and roll?

Bernardo: Everything is still EMO an POP, and the new metal that has been coming out these days kinda sucks. But metal will always stay metal and with those who are metal. Its not always the best kind of rock and roll.

Tim: The music scene is changing. Every decade or so metal becomes "cool" again and the media fucks with it by releasing bands that may be somewhat talented, like System of a Down, but not nearly as good as bands that are playing in the underground. Metal is not always the best kind of rock n roll, but is most of
the time I think. It is just so raw and energetic.

 3. Who are some of your influences and what are some of the classic metal songs you play live?

Tim: Metallica. The reason I play music is right there. I also am a big fan of Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and some southern influenced metal like Down and Corrosion of Conformity. But every once in a while you may hear some Thin Lizzy or Pink Floyd as an influence. Live we try to play as many originals as we can and fill up the rest with our favorites. Ace of Spades by Motorhead and Painkiller by Judas Priest are some of my favorites.

Bernardo: Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas. We play all three of them.

4. Guitar heroes - name them!

Bernardo: Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Adam Fulara, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman (Megadeth). (The rest are solo artists).

Tim: Well as a bass player I will just say some bass heroes. Cliff Burton (Metallica), Steve Harris (Iron
Maiden), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), and Geezer Butler
(Black Sabbath).

5. It's cool that you guys all have different national backgrounds. Do you think this adds to the music you make together? How?

Tim: Definitely. We all grew up listening to a certain genre that our parents listed to when we were younger or even what we heard around town. Being from Atlanta, Georgia, I love southern rock like CCR, The Alman
Brothers, and Skynyrd. We used to have band practice at Bernardo's house and we would get to hear his dad playing Bossa Nova. Great shit.

Bernardo:  Music is made from a person´s experiences and background, and coming from different
places, you get a bunch of different views and thoughts going in,and mixing up, making a bunch
of cool shit.

 6. You live near Washington DC which is considered a big emo city because of Dischord and
Fugazi. Is there a big metal scene there? Who are some of the local bands you've played with or opened for that we should check out?

Tim: Being that our demo is being completed, it is very hard to get shows if you don't have material proving that you are worth the clubs money. There is a big hardcore scene, but the stuff we do I think isjust too much inspired by the 80s. If you aren't doing Hardcore, or Emo, you dont fit in with the crowd. Oh well.

Bernardo: Shit man, there are some cool people, but I havent seen them around. (Side note:
I sent the questions in an email to Bernardo and Geza. I am actually surprised how well he answered them. But
this answer is just retarded. There is a good chance he might have been high.)

7. Describe a typical Hunzilla show. What would I see that I wouldn't see anywhere else?

Bernardo: A naked monkey playing guitar ohohohohohou, but seriously, we love to play live, and we
always give the best we can, which is  probably what everyone says, but fuck man, we are Hunzilla.

Tim: So many bands just get up and play like they are bored on stage, which makes them boring. If you come to our shows you will see us feed and give off constant energy. I fucking love it.

8. Tattoos and/or piercings? Future plans for any?

Tim: I just have one piercing in my left ear, but I plan on getting another in my right and to put some gauges in them. A tattoo could be possible in the future.

Bernardo: I have two earrings on my left ear, but I dont plan on getting anymore holes, but tattoos I plan  on
getting, a pirate flag (I dont know where,) the PREDATOR´s face tattooed on my arm, and the Sepultura "S" on somewhere too.

9. What are some of your originals and what are the songs about? What is the greatest metal song ever written?

Tim: Wow, very different but cool questions. We have 4 completed originals in a time span of around 9 month with school and other things going on. Our first song that we wrote called "Waste" is purely aboutanti-suicide. Another song that is more fun is called "Face of Shame". It’s  got 80s written all over it. I write a majority of the lyrics and songs with help from the guys. The greatest metal song everwritten...wow...I will have to go with "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. But that question is tough.

Bernardo: You´re asking the wrong person, but they kick ass. But the greatest metal song no doubt about it is “Holy Wars,” Megadeth rules.

10. Where can people reach you and what merch do you have?

Tim: Due to budgets, getting a professional website can run up about 500 bucks. Currently you can hear us and reach us at  www.myspace.com/hunzilla. Merch will be available in the future.
