EVEN
THE ODDS
1. Please introduce the band: name, age, instrument, and
boxers or briefs?
Sam Mohl- 15- Lead Vocals/Guitar-
briefs
Brian Pascoe- 17- Bass, Vocals-
boxers
Wyatt Brady- 16- Lead Guitar - briefs
Keith Stover-16- Drums- boxers
2. Please give us the 5-minute history of the
band. How did you meet? Where do you all go to school? How long have you been
playing together?
Well the band formed
when the members were only in middle school. But throughout the years, many line-up
changes have occurred but ultimately ended up at the perfect and final line-up
which exists today. Keith and Sam both go to school at Hunterdon Central, Wyatt
goes to South Hunterdon, and Brian goes to Bridgewater-Raritan. Brian is the most recent
edition to the band on bass and vocals.
3.
Where is East Amwell, NJ and whats it like being a band there?
East Amwell is about 5 minutes outside of Flemington. We all practice 2-3 times
a week in Sam’s basement on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s primarily. Its not bad practicing
out in the sticks since its quiet and pretty desolate.
4. Who are some of your musical
heroes and/or influences? What band or song made you decide
that you wanted to play an instrument and be in a band?
We
each all have our own influences. The list can go on and on for days but to put
it simply, we are influenced by all amazing and talented bands, famous or not.
5. Most of the people reading this will
never have heard you, so how would you describe your sound?
Describing
our sound can kind of be tough. I would have to place it at Alternative Rock.
6. I walk into an Even The
Odds show. I don’t know anything about you at all. I watch you play your set and
then I think to myself,.
These
guys suck! Haha… well really I can’t say what you would
think. Hopefully you’ll be into our stuff, if not that’s cool too. But we do what
we can to make our shows fun and enjoyable, and for the most part, we get a good
reaction from people.
7. Where you
would like to be in 5 years? Have you thought about signing to a label? Would
you go off on tour and skip college if the opportunity came along? What kind of
support do you get from your parents?
In
5 years, we’d like to be a well-established touring band. If the chance came for
us to sign to a label, I believe we would defiantly not miss out on it. I believe
we would go off and tour if the opportunity came along. Its
not everyday you get a chance to live your dream, and we’d expect our parents
to support us in our decision.
8.
Do you think this is a good time to be a band from New Jersey? It seems between the
NJ bands on Drive-Thru and bands like Ted Leo, Midtown, Thursday, etc. plus big
events like Skate & Surf, that there is a lot of attention being paid to NJ
right now. How do you feel about the NJ scene and who are some of your favorite
NJ bands?
There are
so many amazing bands from New Jersey which is why I do think it’s a great time to be a band here. We
play shows all the time, and being able to play with such amazing and inspiring
local acts is the best. Some of our favorite LOCAL NJ bands would be Break Away,
The Stand In, A Day at the Fair, and Flowers and Cops (rip).

9.
Whats the best show you ever played, and why? And what was
the single worst experience youve ever had as a band?
Hmm, the best show we every played
so far would be a cross between last weekend at Hamilton st at their PJ punk party and the previous
weekend when we opened for 12 Stones at Hunterdon Central. Both shows we’re a
lot of fun and the crowds we’re incredible. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the
“worst” experience but I will say that we do tend to have some bad luck, especially
if were playing a new venue, odds our we WILL get lost
on the way there.
10. Please
tell people how they can find out more about you and what merch
you have available.
We’re on Myspace
so be our friend at www.myspace.com/eventheodds,
and also www.purevolume.com/eventheodds
and www.bandspace.com/eventheodds.
Our official website is currently down but
is expected to be up again soon and that is www.eventheoddsmusic.com.
We don’t currently have any merch available, including
our 7-song demo cd “Break the Silence” which is now
not sold at shows or anywhere anymore. The cd is old
and does not reflect the band as it is today. With that being said, we are gearing
up to record our debut EP at Cannon Sound Foundation this August. We will literally
be moving into the studio for 2 weeks to record the 5 song disc. Expect the EP
to be released in the Fall 05’. Great things are going on with the band, so be
our friend, come to our shows, and we love you all!
