BLUE ELIXIR
Hey Surburbia, we're in love with you

1. Introduce the band - name, age, instrument, and what you order at a Jersey diner.

Joe, 15, Vocals/Guitar, Lumberjack slam (dennys)
Brian, 17, Bass/Vocals, Bacon Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel
Paul, 16, Drums, Bacon Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel with ketchup
Colin, 16, Guitar, omlette

2. Since I haven't heard any demos, describe Blue Elixir's sound to me -- in 5 words or less!

Punk with a hardcore edge

3. The band changed from names from Fivestar to Blue Elixir when Colin joined on second guitar. Explain how the band's sound changed and what he's brought to the band.

Being a three-piece band was tough. To keep a full sound while staying technically interesting is extremely hard. We started off 3 piece playing a simple pop punk sound, which was influenced by Blink 182 and an old NJ band called LWL. With the addition of Colin our sound gradually became heavier and much more technical. Over time most of the band members got into innovative emo, punk and hardcore bands, which became the base of our music. We took all these influences and combined them developing our own sound, which is 2 years in the making and is still in progress.

4. What happens to me when I take a sip of blue elixir?

HXC

5. What was the first CD you ever bought? What was the song or band that made you want to learn how to play an instrument (or sing)?

There are actually two cds that were the first to bring us into the music scene. They have had an influence on the bands sound as a whole and each individual member in a different way.
Thrice – The Illusion Of Safety
Thursday – Full Collapse

6. When you're not doing music, what's your favorite thing to do? Skate, sports, video games, school?

Snowboarding, LAX, golf, hockey, ping pong, videogames, and chilling out…that’s about it haha!

7. What's your local scene like? Where is your favorite place to play shows? Are there any other bands in your hometown(s) that we should check out?

The local scene is basically what it is in most of NJ. A lot of emo and screamo bands that are all copies of each other. It has become rare to find bands that bring some originality to the scene, but the talented ones that do definitely stand out.
We play wherever we can. It doesn’t matter where it is, the bands playing, or who is putting it on, we are going to go there in the hope of gaining a couple of new fans. One of the most memorable shows we played was in some random kids basement with Flat Earth Society(rip), The Stand In, The Frequency, and Of Fate and Chance. That lineup drew in a bunch of kids and turned out to be pretty fun
Some local bands to check out are… Of Fate and Chance, The Stand In, All Star Otis, and Hollywood Ave

8. Tell me about the band. Who is the most serious? who is the biggest goof? who is the most annoying? who is the sexiest and gets the most girls?

Serious – Joe…sometimes Paul
Goof – Colin
Annoying – Colin
Sexy – Brian and his jeans

9. Name 5 bands (present or past) that you would kill to tour with.

1. Thursday
2. Thrice
3. Hopesfall
4. Folly
5. Metallica
